Former Detroit Red Wings captain Henrik Zetterberg is undertaking a change of plans during the 4 Nations Face-Off.

He’s choosing to make hockey a priority in his life again.

Zetterberg and his son Love are doing their best to avoid hearing the outcomes of the games being played in North America. That way, they can watch the games together in the late afternoon in Sweden when Love gets home from school.

“We’ll try to somehow not look at the result and somehow be able to watch the games after school when he gets home,” Zetterberg was explaining to Swedish website Expressen. “We’ll see if we can manage not to see any result.”

Based on the outcomes so far for his homeland – Sweden has suffered overtime losses against Canada and Finland – Zetterberg may be wishing he hadn’t seen the results even after seeing the results.

Putting the game that he once played for a living on the front burner is a rarity in Zetterberg’s life these days. While many of his Detroit contemporaries – Steve Yzerman, Nicklas Lidstrom, Niklas Kronwall, Dan Cleary, Kris Draper and Kirk Maltby – remain entrenched in the day to day fortunes of the Red Wings, Zetterberg is content to stay on the sidelines.

Ex Red Wings Star Heavily Involved in Business Ventures

In reality, this development isn’t surprising. Zetterberg was never someone who sought to be in the limelight while playing for the Red Wings. It’s no wonder then that he’s preferring to lay low in his post-hockey career. In his life after hockey, he’s enjoying a life without hockey.

“I live in Angelholm and work from there,” Zetterberg said of the family home he shares with wife Emma and son Love.

The Zetterbergs operate several baguette restaurants in Sweden.

“I am involved in a few different projects, both locally and a little bit in Stockholm and a little bit in Detroit,” Zetterberg said.

Together with old teammate Kronwall, they launched a padel business in Detroit, hoping to expand across the USA. Similar to tennis, padel is very popular in Europe.

Zetterberg also has ownership in companies in the automobile industry. These firms are entities involved in the trading of cars and other motor vehicles.

“I can get through the days,” Zetterberg suggested. “It works well.”
