Red Wings forward Andrew Copp fears that the club's Stadium series uniforms might be too close to Ohio State colors.

The Michigan man thinks the Detroit Red Wings are skating a fine line when it comes to their Stadium Series uniforms.

The NHL is trying to go with a football motif for the unis that the Red Wings and Columbus Blue Jackets will be wearing when they clash outdoors at Ohio Stadium on March 1.

As much as former high school football star Andrew Copp appreciates the notion, the Red Wings forward who played his college hockey for the Michigan Wolverines also had to cringe just a little bit.

“Yeah, there’s a little tribute, kind of,” Copp said, before getting to what concerns him.

He’s finding to be be a bit worrying. Copp fears that the Red Wings might be looking a little too Buckeye-ish as they take the ice in the stadium of Michigan’s hated rival.

“The colors are opposite, though,” Copp said. “So we can’t get too close, or else we’ll look like Ohio State.”

Indeed, it will be the Blue Jackets wearing colors that will look closer to what the Wolverines would be wearing. The Red Wings will the team looking closer to representing Ohio State.

The club has been experimenting with the Stadium Series gear since returning to the ice on Tuesday following the 4 Nations Face-Off break.

“I think it took a little to get used to it, seeing it on the ice,” Copp said.

Red Wings Seider Likes Look

Red Wings defenseman Moritz Seider is unburdened by any allegiance to the Wolverines or Buckeyes. He’s of the opinion that the Detroit Stadium Series look rocks.

Of course, he was given a sneak peak at how they’ll be outfitted. Seider, along with teammates Lucas Raymond and Dylan Larkin, modeled the Stadium Series unis during an NHL photo shoot last month.

“Yeah, pretty cool,” Seider said. “I mean, obviously I was fortunate enough to see the whole look already and looks really sweet.

“Had a chance trying it on firsthand and obviously it feels pretty good. Looks pretty good. And I think the excitement, it’s starting to grow here.”
