The Daily: Red Wings Draftee Up For Awards; Brock Nelson Rumor

Detroit Red Wings goalie prospect Trey Augustine was recently named as a finalist for the Mike Richter and James E. Sullivan Awards.
The Richter honors college hockey’s top goalie of the season, and the Sullivan Award pays homage to the country’s top amateur athlete.
The Sullivan Award includes fan voting that ends Feb. 25. To vote, click here.
Recently, TSN’s Craig Button tabbed Augustine (15-5-3, 2.07, .926) as the No. 20 prospect on his list of top 50 NHL-affiliated prospects. We had Sebastian Cossa as Detroit’s top goalie prospect in our last rankings, but some say Augustine, a Michigan State sophomore, has moved ahead of him.

At worst, the Red Wings have two goalie prospects with undeniable NHL potential. Cossa, 22, is three years older than Augustine. Plus, he is in his third season of pro hockey. That is his current advantage over Augustine.

Coach Todd McLellan is taking his Red Wings back to school in practice this week.
Red Wings Extras
Coach Todd McLellan is treating practices this week like it’s a four-day training camp before Saturday’s ABC game against the Minnesota Wild. That means he’s sprinkling videos around the practice sessions. Lucas Raymond has checked in with coaches. The team won’t see Dylan Larkin until Saturday.
“I’m not too worried about that,” McLellan said. “Him and Razor have been skating so much. I’m going to connect with Razor. He’s reached out and wants to know what the plan is. I want him to get some rest and be able to put his feet up a little bit and get ready for this next push. With Dylan we have no option, he comes back and plays. But we’ll be well aware of his need for some time off, some days off.”
