Ducks Forward Had Hearing for Rasmussen Hit

The NHL Department of Player Safety summoned Anaheim Ducks forward Trevor Zegras for a hearing Monday on his unpenalized head hit to Detroit’s Michael Rasmussen.
The result of the hearing was a three-game suspension for interference against Rasmussen late in the second period of Detroit’s 5-4 win against Anaheim Sunday.
“I didn’t really see it too well to be honest with you,” Detroit’s Patrick Kane said. “I saw a little bit of a replay but off what I saw it seemed pretty high especially for a guy that’s six foot six.”

Zegras was not assessed a penalty for the hit at 17:17 of the period. Officials told the Red Wings bench they didn’t see the infraction. Rasmussen left the game after the hit and didn’t return. He played only 8:02 in the game.
After the game, Detroit coach Todd McLellan wasn’t sure about the extent of Rasmussen’s injury.
“I get it,” McLellan said. “If they didn’t see what happened, they can’t just make it up
The Red Wings are scheduled to fly to Minneapolis today for a Tuesday night tilt against the Minnesota Wild. With Andrew Copp already injured, the Red Wings called up Grand Rapids Griffin center Sheldon Dries to accompany the team. Dries, who has 19 goals in the AHL, is a Michigan native.
Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement and, based on his average annual salary, Zegras will forfeit $89,843.76 during the length of his suspension. The money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.
Zegras has been the subject of many trade rumors this season, including recent ones linking him to the Red Wings. He played for the U.S. National Team Development Program in Plymouth before playing at Boston University.
