The Grand Rapids Griffins are starting to dig themselves out of a hole with a 3-2-1 record in their last six games.

A 6-4 win against the Texas Stars (Dallas Stars) on Tuesday put the Griffins back in second place in the AHL’s Central Division, two points behind the first-place Milwaukee Admirals (Nashville Predators).

The Griffins play another game against Texas tonight at 8 p.m.

The six goals matched Grand Rapids’ season high. The team’s slump was marked by being shut out for three consecutive games (Jan. 31-Feb. 7). With 13 goals over the past three games, they must feel like they are getting back to where they were earlier in the season.

Detroit prospects Amadeus Lombardi,  Cross Hanas, Nate Danielson, and Carter Mazur all scored for Grand Rapids against Texas.  Lombardi (one goal, one assist) and Ondrej Becher (two assists) had two points each.  Becher’s confidence and impact are growing: it was Becher’s second two-point game over the past three games. He has five points in his past six games. Mazur has six points in his past six games.

Sebastian Cossa picked up his 16th win against Texas. Given the back-to-back against Texas, the Griffins may go with Jack Campbell tonight against the Stars.

With Ville Husso traded recently, the Griffins are back to a two-man goalie rotation. That should mean more starts for 6-foot-6 Cossa.

Given the number of top prospects in Grand Rapids, the Red Wings want to make sure the team is in position to compete in the AHL playoffs. Simon Edvinsson, Albert Johansson, Jonatan Berggren and Marco Kasper competed in the AHL playoffs, and it helped them prepare for NHL competition.
