Detroit Red Wings
The Daily: Red Wings’ 8-Point Series Starts Tonight; NHL Rumors

As NHL teams ramp up for the playoffs, we often hear talk about four-point games. But the Red Wings will start an eight-point home-and-series with the Columbus Blue Jackets tonight.
The uniqueness of this home-and-home is Columbus and Detroit are two primary competitors for an Eastern Conference wildcard position. They are separated by two points, and neither would have been expected to be in this position a couple of months ago.
Adding to the special nature of the home-and-home on Thursday in Detroit and Saturday in Columbus is the second game will be an outdoor game on Ohio State University’s football game. It’s part of the NHL’s Stadium Series.

That stadium has history with both teams because the University of Michigan and Ohio State are two of the top rivals in college football.
And of course, each game is a “four-point game” if it is decided in regulation because one team is adding two points while the loser is being denied two points. Each team goes into tonight’s game with 24 games remaining. If either Detroit or Columbus wins both games in regulation, their particular race will have an eight-point swing.
