Red Wings Power Play Didn’t Get Ghosted (+)

The Detroit Red Wings made a concerted effort last summer to get unrestricted free agent defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere to sign on the dotted line. When he was opting to go elsewhere, joining the Carolina Hurricanes, it was feared that Detroit’s power play would crash and burn. Gostisbehere is a top NHL power-play quarterback.
Instead, the Red Wings are continuing to soar with the man advantage. Meanwhile, the performance of the Hurricanes power play is proving to be quite stormy.
As the two teams meet for the first time this season on Tuesday at Little Caesars Arena, it’s a tale of two power-play units. Currently, Detroit ranks second in the NHL on the power play, clicking at 29.2%. Carolina sits 24th in the league at 19.2%.
Why didn’t the Wings get ghosted on the man advantage without Gostisbehere? Who’s picking up the slack for the Red Wings power play?
Let’s look at that.
