The Daily: Red Wings Extend Watson; Mazur Recalled

The Detroit Red Wings continued their transformation to a younger lineup by recalling scrappy scoring winger Carter Mazur from the Grand Rapids Griffins.
He might have been up with parent club earlier had he not missed several weeks with an injury. Mazur, a Michigan native, currently owns a six game points streak (4-3-7) for Grand Rapids.
:“I think he can bring a lot of energy,” Red Wings forward Elmer Soderblom said. “He works really hard out thereand just a skilled player, good around the net, has a good touch for goals and stuff like that. He plays physical as well. I think he can bring a lot of energy.”
With Mazur up, the Red Wings could reunite the Jonatan Berggren, Marco Kasper and Mazur line that played well for Grand Rapids late last season.
In other news, the Red Wings gave Austin Watson another year on his two-way contract. The Red Wings have only used him for two games this season, but he has had impact for Grand Rapids as a tough guy (94 penalty minutes) and scorer (12 goals).

Red Wings In Case You Missed It
Michael Rasmussen is ready to return to the lineup. The Red Wings have missed him.
With the trade deadline approaching, GM Steve Yzerman‘s first deal was a small one.
Let’s make a deal: What Red Wings are vulnerable to being traded before Friday’s 3 p.m. deadline.

This is – great(?)
I like seeing the prospects come up – but I don’t think signing Watson to an AHL extention, and bringing up Mazur changes the scenario of DRW getting into the playoffs (?)
Am I wrong here?
Is SY going to pull the string – OH NO – probably not! – he just bailed out Tampa by eating 1/2 of Gourde’s contracts- then giving up a prospect to get – A FOURTH ROUND PICK ?!?!?!?!
WTF, Stevie………..
Gordon, how about you propose a realistic trade you think Yzerman should make. The player and what it would cost the Red Wings. Stimulate that gray matter. I’m curious what you would come up with.
Nice move by Yzerman and the Griffins. If anyone deserved a bonus or reward of some type, it’s Austin Watson. He has been a great mentor to Danielson and the other prospects, and played an important role in helping Soderblom find his path back to the NHL. Watson has a unique way of encouraging those guys and it’s effective. Are you not going to listen to him?
