Detroit Red Wings
Red Wings at Capitals: Notes, Lines, Goalies, How to Watch

The good news about Thursday’s loss to Utah is that the Red Wings was that Detroit didn’t lose any ground in the chase for a wildcard playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
That was about it. The Wings lost Carter Mazur two shifts into his NHL debut and he’s out for the time being. He did not take the trip to Washington for tonight’s game against the Capitals.
So the Red Wings, already hard at work looking for trade partners before today’s deadline, will be likely adding someone from Grand Rapids before tonight’s contest.
As a sideline attraction, Alexander Ovechkin has moved to within 10 goals of passing Wayne Gretzky in career goals. Every goal he scores from now through the end of his NHL career will arise money for pediatric cancer research.
A notable achievement for a worthy cause, but not everyone is impressed,
Ovechkin won’t break the record against the Red Wings tonight, thank goodness.
Christian Fischer won’t br there tonight. Hee was put on waivers to make room for Mazur and was claimed by Columbus on Thursday. Former Red Wing Jakob Vrana was claimed from the Capitals by Nashville. The former first-round pick by Washington hasn’t come close to the potential he showed when he was drafted a decade ago.
