The Daily: Red Wings Fans Waiting for Help; Walman to Oilers

The Detroit Red Wings made a fan-pleasing move by calling up Michigan native Carter Mazur for his NHL debut Thursday. But that excitement disappeared when Mazur suffered an injury on his second shift.
Detroit’s only trade brought them a fourth-round pick for retaining some of Yanni Gourde’s salary to facilitate his trade from the Seattle Kraken to the Tampa Bay Lightning. Meanwhile, interesting names are going of the trade board. Brock Nelson. Luke Schenn. Ryan Lindgren. Brian Dumoulin. Jake Walman.
Yep. Jack Walman. The Red Wings had to give up a second-round pick to move him off their roster last summer and the San Jose Sharks managed to extract a first-round pick out of the Edmonton Oilers for him last night.

That created a buzz among Detroit’s fan base.
It’s fair to say thus far the Red Wings’ trade deadline maneuvering hasn’t gone the way Detroit fans hoped it would.
The Red Wings lost their fourth consecutive game last night and today GM Steve Yzerman will have to decide how much of the future he wants to give up for a shot at making the playoffs for the first time in nine years. He has almost $13 million in cap space, but certainly isn’t looking to add too many contracts moving forward.
He makes decision with both Moneypuck.com and Hockeyreference.com pegging the Red Wings’ playoff probability at just over 17% this morning.
Red Wings In Case You Missed It
Carter Mazur‘s much-anticipated NHL debut with the Red Wings cut short by another injury.
Christian Fischer, popular with his teammmates, was lost on waivers to the Columbus Blue Jackets.
