Why Yzerman Didn’t Do More Before Trade Deadline (DHN+)

Detroit Red Wings Steve Yzerman will be a busy GM over the next couple of weeks

Detroit Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman said he was willing to move draft picks and prospects on NHL Trade Deadline Day if circumstances were right.

But Friday was not that day.

“(For) players that have some term on their contract and are younger that are going to be a part of this group for like more than one or two years,” Yzerman said. “I’m open to doing that. Though that type of deal wasn’t available.”

Yzerman didn’t talk about who he was, or wasn’t, interested in, but hockey insider Elliotte Friedman reported a few weeks ago that the Red Wings were interested in rugged Buffalo center Dylan Cozens. He’s 24 and his contract runs  to 2030.
