The Daily: Augustine Receives More Honors; Johansson Set For GR

New day, new acclaim for Detroit Red Wings prospect goalie Trey Augustine. The Hockey Commissioners Association (HCA) named the Michigan State sophomore as one of the four finalists for the Mike Richter Award, awarded annually to the nation’s top college goalie.
The other finalists are Maine sophomore Albin Boija, Boston College sophomore Jacob Fowler and Minnesota State junior Alex Tracy. The winner will be announced April 11 during the Frozen Four.

Earlier this weekend, Augustine was named Big Ten Goalie of the Year.
The Red Wings undoubtedly will make an effort to sign Augustine, 20, after this college season is completed. Goalies need more development time in the minors than defensemen and forwards. This is Sebastian Cossa’s third season playing in the minors. Cossa will still only be 22 when the 2025-26 season starts.
Red Wings In Case You Missed It
What should the Red Wings do about Vladimir Tarasenko? He’s playing OK, but has lost his scoring touch. It probably makes no sense to scratch him.
Coach Todd McLellan’s Detroit squad has been the NHL’s worst team over the past 10 game.
Joe Veleno hasn’t found his place with the Chicago Blackhawks quite yet.

Swedish defenseman Anton Johansson (drafted 105th overall, 2022) has signed an amateur tryout agreement with the Grand Rapids Griffins. That will allow him to play some games with the Griffins before the end of the regular-season and into the playoffs. He recently signed a three-year contract with the Red Wings that will start next season. The 6-foot-4 Johansson likely will start next season with the Griffins.
