The Daily: Johansson Debuts in GR Loss; Yzerman Signs Czech

Newly-signed Detroit Red Wings prospect Anton Johansson made his North American pro debut in the Grand Rapids Griffins’ 4-1 loss to the Rockford IceHogs Saturday.
The 6-foot-4 Swedish defenseman, no relation to Albert Johansson, owned three shots on goal and an even plus-minus in his first game for Grand Rapids.
“I would describe myself as a two-way defender,” Johansson told the media after the game. “I like to hit people. I love to use my skill on offense.”
Johansson (5-5-10 for Leksands) has a history of playing a rugged game. “I love his skating ability,” Coach Dan Watson said. “…He made a couple of mistakes, but that’s to be expected.”
The Griffins were happy to get Johansson because their lineup has been undermined by frequent Detroit call-ups. The Red Wings latest promotions of forward Austin Watson and defenseman Brogan Rafferty forced Grand Rapids to play with 11 forwards and seven defensemen Friday. Those were the only players they have available.
Red Wings In Case You Missed It
Coach Todd McLellan is giving Simon Edvinsson his shot at playing on the power play, although he wants to try others as well.
Red Wings call up tough guy Austin Watson, who has played well for the Grand Rapids Griffins.
GM Steve Yzerman signs Czech scoring leader. It seems as if we have seen this move before.

Coach Todd McLellan’s team is in Vegas to play the Golden Knights tonight (8 p.m., ABC). Petr Mrazek shut out Vegas 3-0 in Detroit six days ago, but he is not expected to be in goal tonight. However, coach McLellan has not revealed his goalie. The Golden Knights are a more formidable team at home. They are 25-7-3 in Vegas.
