The Daily: Sandin Pellikka Team Leads SHL Series; Cossa in GR

The Skelleftea team may be playing well enough in the Swedish Hockey League playoffs to delay the Axel Sandin Pellikka arrival with the Detroit Red Wings organization.
Skelleftea posted a 6-2 win against Farjestad Friday to go up 3-1 in its best-of-seven quarterfinals. Sandin Pellikka was scoreless. Michael Brandsegg-Nygard, Detroit’s 2024 first-rounder, scored a power play goal and an assist in 13:41 minutes of playing time in this contest.

Skelleftea can clinch by winning Game 5 Saturday. Game 6, if he needed, would be Sunday. If Skelleftea wins this series, the next round would keep Sandin Pellikka in Sweden until much closer to the end of Detroit’s season.
Detroit’s last two games are April 16 at New Jersey and April 17 at Toronto.
Red Wings in Case You Missed It
Bob Duff wonders whether we have seen the last of Alex Lyon. He seemed to be fighting the puck in the 4-3 loss to Ottawa. The Red Wings have 10 games remaining and Lyon will be a free agent at the end of this season.
The Red Wings did fight back. But coach Todd McLellan said there is no moral victories at this time of the season. It’s either a win or a loss. And the Red Wings lost.
Just like the Red Wings, the Grand Rapids Griffins are looking for more goals.
Red Wings Extra
How critical was this game to the Red Wings? Four Detroit players played more than 25 minutes as the team fought to get back in the game. Moritz Seider logged 27:26 of ice time, while Larkin (27:12), Kane (26:02) and DeBrincat (25:22) were the others. The Red Wings play Boston Saturday (8 p.m., ABC). The Bruins have lost seven games in a row, while giving up an average of more than five goals per game. The Red Wings sent goalie Sebastian Cossa back to Grand Rapids.
