The Daily: Horcoff Lifts USA at Worlds; Hasek Threatened

University of Michigan player Will Horcoff, the son of Detroit Red Wings assistant GM Shawn Horcoff, scored the game-winning goal in USA’s 4-2 come-from-behind win against Czechia at the U18 World Championships in Texas.
Czechia held a 2-1 lead in the game before the American began their comeback. Draft eligible Horcoff is projected to go in the second round of the draft. NHL’s Central Scouting ranks Horcoff 24th among North American players.
The 6-foot-4 center played part of the 2024-25 season with the U.S. National Team Development Program before joining the Michigan program.
One of Shawn Horcoff’s duties with the Red Wings is serving as general manager of the Grand Rapids Griffins.

Although we don’t know what Steve Yzerman is thinking, it seems possible that the Red Wings, depending upon whether they get Patrick Kane re-signed, could end up with three or four new forwards. Besides Kane, the other X factor would be whether the Red Wings can move Vladimir Tarasenko. We would guess they will have two new defensemen, and one of them could be Axel Sandin Pellikka. Expect Detroit to sign a UFA defenseman. Could they end with a new goalie? Maybe. The UFA market isn’t strong, but don’t rule out Yzerman making a trade or two. That’s where a goalie could come.
