The Daily: Red Wings Need Another Perron; Bruins Coach List

Through no fault of his own, former Red Wings player David Perron didn’t enjoy his best NHL season playing for the Ottawa Senators. He had to step away from the game to be with his family during a daughter’s serious medical issue, and then after that had a happy ending, he came back only to be injured.
He was a popular player with teammates in Detroit. That’s why you can bet everyone was happy for him that he chipped in a goal in Ottawa’s 4-3 OT win against the Maple Leafs Saturday in Game 4 of their playoff series. It was his second point of the series. He had four shots on goal.

His play last night was a reminder of what the Red Wings need to find this offseason through a trade or free agency. They need to find someone who generate offensive as consistently as Perron did in Detroit. In his two seasons, Perron put up 41 goals and amassed 103 points. After Perron took a deal with Ottawa, the Red Wings added Vladimir Tarasenko to regain Perron’s lost offense. He didn’t deliver, finishing with 11 goals and 33 points.
The Red Wings need more offense. They need another Perron, perhaps a slightly younger version of the versatile forward. Perron turns 37 next month.
Red Wings In Case You Missed It
Ex-Detroit forward Filip Zadina, who played well in Switzerland, would very much like a return to the NHL.
One-time Red Wings prospect Dick Axelsson had a fun verbal exchanges with officials from the Swedish National Team.
Defenseman Simon Edvinsson accepted an invitation to play for Sweden at the World Championships.
Red Wings ExtraÂ
The Red Wings did not re-sign 2018 draft pick defenseman Seth Barton (drafted 81st) after he played three seasons for the Grand Rapids Griffins (2020-23). But he has continued to play in Europe. After playing the past two seasons for KooKoo Kouvola in the Finnish League, he recently signed a deal to play next season for Malmo in Sweden. The 6-foot-3 British Columbia native played his college hockey at UMass-Lowell.
