Lucas Raymond, coming off an 80-point season, has decided to join Red Wings teammate Simon Edvinsson on the Swedish National Team.

The World Championships will be played in Denmark starting May 9.

Raymond has played four seasons with the Red Wings, and put up season point totals of 57, 45, 72 and 80. He has averaged just under 25 goals per season.

Raymond said after the Red Wings season that he needed to sort out some issues before deciding whether to play in the World Championships. But he has continually shown a desire to play for his country. He also played for Sweden in the Four Nations Face-off.

Despite his strong individual season, Raymond said it was disappointing to miss the playoffs yet again.

“It’s not fun,” Raymond said. “You want to get ready to play Game 1 (of the playoffs) and that didn’t happen this year. I think obviously everyone’s very disappointed.”

He was at a loss to explain why the team fell down in March.

“I don’t know to be honest,” Raymond said after the season. “We put ourselves in a good position before the Four Nations break to be in a good spot, coming back and making a good push for it. (Then) it didn’t click for us in a period of time. That really set us back. It was kind of going uphill for us. You look at back at games, same last year, and it just goes to show you how important every game is.”

Moritz Seider is playing for the German team. The Red Wings will have four players in the tournament, if you count Eduards Tralmaks who is playing for  Latvia. The Red Wings signed left wing Tralmaks after he won the Czech Extraliga scoring championship with 23 goals and 51 points.
