The Daily: Rudy to Play for Memorial Cup; Swedish Red Wings

Regardless of the outcome of the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League playoff championship, Detroit Red Wings prospect goalie Rudy Guimond will play for the Memorial Cup.
Guimond’s Moncton Wildcats play Rimouski in the QMJHL Finals starting Saturday, and Rimouski already is in the Memorial Cup tournament because it is the host city. That means Moncton is automatically the QMJHL representative to the Memorial Cup.
Since Rimouski is the host team for the 2025 Memorial Cup, the QMJHL representative will be Moncton, their opponent in the Finals.

This has been an impressive run for Guimond (drafted 169th, 2023) who is undefeated since jumping from the United States Hockey League to the “Q” in late November. He was 16-0 with a 1.73 goals-against average and .940 save percentage in the regular season.
In the post-season, he is splitting goaltending duties with Mathis Rousseau. Guimond is 7-0 with a 2.00 GAA and .927 save percentage.
With the Wildcats cruising in the playoffs, it seems like they would keep the rotation going.
The Wildcats own home-ice advantage. The first two games will be played in Moncton on Saturday and Sunday.
With his recent success, Guimond has certainly caught the attention of the Red Wings organization. But there is no hurry to make any decisions about his potential: He’s heading to Yale where the Red Wings can watch his progress for at least a couple of seasons or maybe longer.
