The Daily: With Pickard out, Oilers Fall; Rudy Goes Tonight

Did the Edmonton Oilers lose their lucky charm? With their undefeated goalie Calvin Pickard, the ex-Red Wings player, out with an injury, the Vegas Golden Knights defeated the Oilers 4-3 in Edmonton on a Reilly Smith goal with 0.4 seconds left in regulation.
That cuts the Oilers’ lead to 2-1 in the best-of-seven series with Game 4 scheduled for Monday, also in Edmonton.
The Oilers brought a six-game winning streak into the game, each contest won with Pickard in net. He was injured in Game 2. Stuart Skinner started Game 3 and made 20 saves.
Assuming this is the play that may have hurt Pickard. That damn gust of wind knocked Hertl over onto Pickard’s leg. Brutal… #LetsGoOilers pic.twitter.com/0N4dkHpOGi

The win came with a cost for the Golden Knights. Mark Stone left the game in the first period with an injury.
Skinner is 0-3 in these playoffs with a 5.36 GAA and .836 save percentage. Pickard is 6-0.

Rudy Guimond’s Moncton Wildcats are up 1-0 in their best-of-seven QMJHL Final against Rimouski. The Wildcats clubbed Rimouski, 4-1, Saturday with Guimond on the bench. Staying true to their postseason rotation, the Wildcats went with Mathis Rousseau who needed just 13 saves to get the job done. Guimond, 23-0 this season Moncton in regular-season and postseason play, should play Game 2 tonight.
