Red Wings Prospect Rushing to Worlds
Brandsegg-Nygard to play for Norway

His campaign with the Grand Rapids Griffins came to a crashing halt on Friday, but hockey season is continuing for Detroit Red Wings prospect Michael Brandsegg-Nygard. The winger is slated to land in Denmark on Monday afternoon and join Norway’s team at the IIHF World Championship.
According to a post from Norwegian website Nitten.no, Brandsegg-Nygard was to undergo an exit meeting early Sunday with Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman. Then he was slated to board a milk run flight – Grand Rapids-New York-Frankfurt-Billund – ultimately arriving in Hernig, Denmark, where the Norwegian team is based, on 2 pm Monday afternoon Danish time.

Norway’s next game is slated for Tuesday against Germany. Red Wings defenseman Moritz Seider is serving as Germany’s captain.
Brandsegg-Nygard was filling a starring role for Norway at last year’s worlds. He accounted for 4-1-5 totals in five games. The big winger also performed strongly in the Calder Cup playoffs for the AHL Griffins. He scored twice and added an assist in three games.
Red Wings Raymond Settling In
Sweden is off to a 2-0 start at the worlds. Winning back-to-back games over Slovakia and Austria was also helping some of the Swedish NHLers knock some rust off their games.
“I haven’t played in three weeks and I’m starting with a back-to-back,” Red Wings forward Lucas Raymond told Swedish website Aftonbladet. “But you come to these tournaments to play games and it’s easy to come out with energy when you’re playing for your country in front of the fans.
“But it’s clear that it’s felt in the body. At the same time, everyone here is a professional and you have an obligation to take care of your body and your mind to be ready for every match.”
Sweden puts its perfect record on the line Monday while facing arch rival Finland. Raymond, who’s been skating on a line with Leo Carlsson and Marcus Pettersson, had his Sunday prep plans all mapped out.
“I’m going to get some sleep and try to hang out with family and friends,” Raymond said. “Just relax and recharge for Finland.”
Germans Also Perfect
Seider’s Germany was also improving t0 2-0. The Germans were 4-1 winners over Kazakhstan on Sunday.
“Overall, I think we can just be happy with the performance,” Seider told IIHF.com. “I thought it was a really solid game. Overall, 4-1 says a lot, and I think we can be happy with that.”
Seider collected an assist and skated a game-high 24:30 of ice time.
Tralmaks On The Board
Eduards Tralmaks, the European free agent the Red Wings signed after he led the Czech Extraliga in scoring, is off to solid start to the world tourney. He has points in both of Latvia’s games.

Sunday, Tralmaks gave the Latvians a 1-0 lead just 7:05 into their contest against Canada. He whipped a quick shot from the top of the circles past Canadian goalie Marc-Andre Fleury low on the glove side.
The excitement didn’t last, however. Canada would rally for a 7-1 victory.
