The Daily: Walman Leads NHL in Playoff +/-; Michkov Accident

Jake Walman, Detroit Red Wings

The Edmonton Oilers have reached the Western Conference Finals and former Detroit Red Wings defenseman Jake Walman may be this season’s best trade deadline acquisition.

The Oilers sent a first-round draft pick to San Jose for Walman. He’s been worth the price they paid.

After 11 postseason games playing as one of Edmonton’s top four defenseman, he’s leading the NHL with a plus-13 plus-minus. The closest player to him is Philip Broberg who is plus-9. Walman has yet to have a minus-game in these playoffs.

The Red Wings gave up a second-round draft pick to move him last summer, mostly because they needed cap space. But Walman was the player the Red Wings moved because they didn’t appreciate his attitude the season before.
