Fetisov Pulling For Red Wings Russian Five Teammates
Wants to see Fedorov or Larionov as next coach of CSKA Moscow

Another Russian hockey legend – this one with connections to the Detroit Red Wings – is calling for one of his old Detroit teammates to be the next coach of their old Russian club.
Fetisov is lobbying hard with the hopes that Igor Larionov will become the next coach of KHL club CSKA Moscow. Then again, he’s also hedging his bets. Papa Bear is suggesting that Sergei Fedorov would be another wise choice to fill the position.
In doing so, Fetisov is choosing to ignore the plaintive cries from Fedorov that he wants nothing to do with the position.
“Fedorov or Larionov,” Fetisov suggested to Russian website odds.ru as to who should the next coach of the most famous hockey club in his homeland. “All the others are somehow not interesting to me.”

Fetisov, Larionov and Fedorov were all part of the famed Russian Five that was helping the Red Wings win back-to-back Stanley Cups in 1996-97 and 1997-98. Prior to coming to North America, each player also played starring roles for CSKA Moscow.
Formerly captain of the national team and currently a Russian State Douma Deputy, Fetisov is the latest hockey legend from his homeland to throw his support behind the former Red Wings stars. Boris Mikhailov, also an ex-national team captain and honorary president of CSKA Moscow, wants to see Larionov get the job.
Red Wings Legend Linked To Other Coaching Position
Larionov, let go as coach of Torpedo when the team was ousted from the Gagarin Cup playoffs, is being rumored as the next coach of a different KHL squad. His name is being connected to the open job behind the bench of Lada Togliatti.
For his part, Larionov, 64, is stating that he wants to take some time away from the game. He’s even hinting at trying his hand at coaching soccer.

Fedorov, meanwhile, is adamant that his coaching days are all done.
“I have no negotiations with the club,” Fedorov told Russian news agency TASS. “I will not be the head coach.”
Fedorov, 55, previously coached CSKA Moscow from 2021-24. During that span, he led the club to back-to-back KHL Gagarin Cup titles.
