Red Wings Kasper Leads Austria to Huge Victory
Tallies twice in win over France

Austria is still in with a chance of reaching the quarter-finals at the IIHF World Championship and the country can thank Detroit Red Wings center Marco Kasper for that.
Kasper was netting a pair of goals Friday as Austria thumped France 5-2. The win moved the Austrians (1-3-1) within two points of fourth-place Slovakia in Group A.
“We came out strong, got goals early which was huge for us,” Kasper told IIHF.com. “It was a good win for us, and we’re happy with that.
“We’ll try to stay focused on the next game and not look too far ahead.”

Kasper got the Austrians off to a dream start, scoring on the first shift of the game, just 39 seconds after the opening faceoff. He’d later tally in the third period to make it 4-1 Austria. Kasper finished the game +4 and delivered seven shots on goal. The player who scored 19 goals for the Red Wings this season is showing 4-1-5 totals on the stats sheet through five games.
Two Helpers For Red Wings Gustafsson
Red Wings defenseman Erik Gustafsson is enjoying a strong world tourney for Sweden. He was dishing out a pair of assists as the Swedes blanked Slovenia 4-0. Gustafsson has accounted for five assists in five games and is +4.
Red Wings defenseman Simon Edvinsson, who’s been partnering with Gustafsson, also picked up an assist for his first point of the tournament. That also means every Swedish skater on the roster now has a point. The Swedes are 5-0 and already assured of a quarter-final berth.
