Red Wings Kasper Delivers For Austria
Tough time for rest of Detroit players

Austria will be continuing on in the IIHF World Championship and the country can given plenty of thanks for that to Detroit Red Wings center Marco Kasper. He dished out a pair of assists as Austria was clinching fourth place in Group A via a 6-1 rout of Latvia.
Kasper leads Austria in scoring with 4-3-7 totals. It’s the first time in three decades that Austria will play in the playoffs at the worlds.
Detroit prospect Eduards Tralmaks scored the lone goal for the Latvians. He’s the leading scorer for Latvia with three goals and four assists.

Austria will face Switzerland in Thursday’s quarter-finals.
Seider, Germany Come Up Short
The news wasn’t so good for Red Wings defenseman Moritz Seider as Germany was facing Denmark with fourth place in Group B on the line. The Danes rallied from a 1-0 deficit to beat the Germans 2-1 in a shootout.
Serving as Germany’s captain for the first time, Seider made no effort to hide his disappointment.

“I think we came out with a very solid game plan,” Seider told IIHF.com. “I think we weathered the storm pretty well, defended from the inside out. We knew they were coming out pretty hard, probably, and found a way to get into the game after five or 10 minutes.
“We played overall a very solid game. But if you look at the big picture, scoring one goal probably won’t do it in international hockey, and that’s very frustrating right now.”
Swedes Dumped By Canada
Unbeaten Sweden would finish first in Group A with a victory over Canada. Unfortunately for the Swedes, it was not to be. Canada would post a 5-3 victory. Red Wings forward Lucas Raymond had one assist for the Swedes. He’s accounted for 2-6-8 totals during the tournament.
Detroit defensemen Simon Edvinsson and Erik Gustafsson are also playing for Sweden. The Swedes will face Czechia and former Red Wings Filip Hronek and Filip Zadina in the quarter-finals on Thursday.
Red Wings Legend Next To Royalty
Detroit fans would consider Nicklas Lidstrom to be Red Wings royalty. Tuesday, as he was watching the Canada-Sweden game, Lidstrom was next to royalty. Members of the Swedish royal family, including Prince Daniel and Prince Carl Philip, sat next to the Perfect Human during the game.
Lidstrom is serving as an ambassador for the tournament.
