The Daily: Shanny Talks to Islanders; Blashill to Chicago

Brendan Shanahan, not knowing his future in Toronto, is talking to the New York Islanders about their vacant president/GM job.
Because Shanahan is still under contract to Toronto, the Maple Leafs had to grant permission for the Islanders to talk to him. His contract expires June 30.
New York Islanders Hockey Now writer Russ Macias says Shanahan is an “obvious fit” for the Islanders because of the job he did turning around the Maple Leafs franchise. The Islanders missed the playoffs last season, and the Maple Leafs have made the postseason nine consecutive seasons. The issue in Toronto is the Maple Leafs can’t advance beyond the second round.
Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported on his 32 Thoughts: The Podcast that Marc Bergevin and Mathieu Darche are receiving a second interview for the Islanders’ job. Jarmo Kekalainen is also considered a candidate.
Friedman also reported that the Maple Leafs Sports and Entertainment board of directors will be deciding his Toronto future in the next couple of days.

Detroit GM Steve Yzerman will be a 10/1 shot when he attempts to sign UFA Mitch Marner.
Russian media is reporting that former NHLer Maxime Comtois, currently playing in the KHL, is considering signing with the Red Wings.
Henrik Zetterberg once gave up a goal so a teammate could get on the scoresheet.

Lots of chatter that former Detroit coach Jeff Blashill will be Chicago’s new coach. Chicago Hockey Now’s story says interim coach Anders Sorensen will stay on as one of Blashill’s assistants.
