The Daily: Shanny to NYI Has Red Wings Angle; Blashill Deserved It

Toronto Maple Leafs fans seem pleased that Brendan Shanahan is out of their picture. New York Islanders fans seem intrigued by the possibility that the former Red Wings player could help their organization.

Meanwhile, Detroit fans are just amused by the possibility that Shanahan, if he lands the Islanders job, would decide Patrick Roy’s fate as Islanders coach.

Older Detroit fans remember that famous scrap between Shanahan and Roy at center ice. It’s an important moment in the famous Detroit vs. Colorado NHL rivalry. It starts with a Shanahan takedown of Roy.

Keep in mind that it’s not a certainty that Shanahan will get the Islanders job. Former Montreal general manager Marc Bergevin and current Tampa Bay Assistant General manager Mathieu Darche are considered major candidates.

Former Red Wings general manager Ken Holland was a top candidate but he ended up with the Los Angeles Kings job.
