The Daily: Oilers Better Fit Than Red Wings For Czech Goalie?; Pens Seek Rossi?

Michal Postava, red wings

The Czech media has the Detroit Red Wings as a possible favorite to land Czech Extraliga standout goalie Michal Postava.

But respected Czech journalist Pavel Barta writes that he believes Postava has a better option.

“Behind (Cam) Talbot and (Petr) Mrázek are (Trey) Augustine and (Sebastian) Cossa, junior champions and 1st round draft picks,” Barta wrote on social media. “A better chance seems to be with the Edmonton Oilers where they do not have such goalies in reserve.”

The Red Wings, Oilers, Seattle Kraken and Utah Mammoth are said to be interested in Postava. His decision could come in the next few days.

At 23, Postava is about nine months older than Cossa. But his experience level is higher, having just helped his Brno Kometa team win the championship. He was 10-7 in the postseason with a 1.97 goals-against average and .940 save percentage.

One Red Wings advantage is that they have Czech goalie Petr Mrazek on the roster, but the Utah Mammoth have Karel Vejmelka, a Czech who played several season for Brno Kometa

Red Wings In Case You Missed It

It’s decision time for Red Wings prospect defenseman Antti Tuomisto. He’s an RFA.

Detroit draft pick Jan Bednar turned in a quality start in goal to lift the Toledo Walleye to a 3-1 win in Game 1 of the ECHL championship series.

The Toledo Walleye, using goalies with Red Wings connections, will take a 1-0 series lead into tonight’s home Game 2 of the Kelly Cup Finals tonight against the Trois-Rivieres Lions. Detroit draft pick Jan Bednar won Game 1 with a 24-save performance. The Walleye haven’t announced which of their goalies will start Game 2.
