The Daily: Walleye, Gylander Lose Game 2; New Job for Igor

The Toledo Walleye, with Detroit prospect Carter Gylander in net, fell 5-1 to Trois-Rivieres Lions in Game 2 of the ECHL’s Kelly Cup Finals. The best-of-seven series now heads to Trois-Rivieres for Game 3 and 4.
The Walleye are using a goalie rotation of Gylander and 2020 Red Wings draft pick Jan Bednar. Presumably, Bednar (7-2, 2.35 goals-against average) will be in goal for Wednesday’s Game 3.
Gylander, 23, surrendered five goals on 35 shots faced. The Lions generated 27 shots on goal in the first 40 minutes, building up a 3-0 lead.

Seventy years ago today, on June 3, 1955, Detroit traded Terry Sawchuk, Vic Stasiuk, Marcel Bonin, and Lorne Davis to the Boston Bruins in exchange for Real Chevrefils, Ed Sandford, Norm Corcoran, Gilles Boisvert, and Warren Godfrey. Sawchuk was the key player in the deal. He missed half of the 1956-57 season because of exhaustion. On July 10, 1957, he was traded back to the Red Wings for Johnny Bucyk. That deal obviously worked out quite well for the Bruins.
