As trade winds begin to blow with greater force in anticipation of the NHL draft, former Detroit Red Wings player Igor Larionov, now coach of Demidov’s former St. Petersburg team, made curious news this week.

Larionov said he would like to see Ivan Demidov back in the KHL.

We would all like gasoline to be 39 cents per gallon, but that’s not going to happen either.

“I understand that Demidov is a real gem for the Canadiens,” explained Larionov to RG. “But sometimes you need to take a step back to move three steps forward. I’d really love the chance to work with this kid. I don’t know if it will happen, but I will be asking for him to be loaned back for one year.”

Montreal Hockey Now’s Marc Dumont explains Montreal won’t loan Demidov back to the KHL.

Now we move from the fiction category to current events where NHL teams are all busy making trade inquiries. This summer, there appears to be more players likely to be dealt than usual. Below, we have links to several stories about potential trades.

Red Wings In Case You Missed It

Daily Faceoff’s projection of potential buyouts includes Detroit player Justin Holl, plus former Detroit player Joe Veleno. The Blackhawks acquired Veleno last trade deadline.

Forty years ago this week, a Red Wings jersey appeared in a hot movie and it created a stir.

The Russian Hockey Hall of Fame made the call to Red Wings legend Pavel Datsyuk.

Hopefully Yzerman is talking with the Av’s about Necas. He’d be a nice fit in the Wings top 6. They need more dynamic play, more speed, and more size up front. I could see Necas and Kaspar working well together. He’s the right age as well. My guess is Colorado will make a play for Marner, meaning they’ll need to shed some additional salary, not just Necas. They’d likely want very little if any salary coming back, which makes Detroit a good trading partner.
