Byram to Red Wings an Unlikely Fit
Buffalo defenseman has been linked to Detroit in NHL trade rumors

It’s seems as though Bowen Byram’s name is being perenially mentioned in NHL trade rumors and the Detroit Red Wings are frequently touted as a potential destination for the Buffalo Sabres defenseman.
As much as Byram would be a sensational fit in the Detroit defensive corps, even if you squint really hard, it’s still difficult to see this deal going down.
“We said it was going to be a hot name this summer. And I've just heard there's been a lot of noise around him at the Combine.” – Elliotte Friedman on pending RFA Bowen Byram

Byram to Detroit appears to be a non starter for the very same reasons why Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman and Keyvn Adams, his Buffalo counterpart couldn’t find common ground to make a deal for Buffalo center Dylan Cozens work at the NHL trade deadline.
The Sabres aren’t looking to dump salary. And they also aren’t in the process of building for the future. Buffalo’s future is now. Adams recognizes he needs to win right away, or that’s about how quickly he’ll be finding himself standing in hockey’s unemployment line.
Would Take Hockey Trade For Red Wings To Get Byram
The Sabres want to make a hockey deal with any trade involving Byram. That means they are looking for NHL players in return. Prospects aren’t of interest to Adams. They are going to want a player or players off Detroit’s roster to make this move happen. And no, that doesn’t mean a fantasy sports trade in which the Red Wings send Vladimir Tarasenko, JT Compher and Justin Holl to the Sabres in exchange for Byram.
The Sabres aren’t looking for William Wallinder or Shai Buium. Buffalo is going to want someone like Simon Edvinsson.
Per sources, I’m told @StanleyCup champ D Byram is generating plenty of interest in the market from multiple clubs exploring a potential trade with @BuffaloSabres for his services. #HockeyX pic.twitter.com/KnyLgIZw9G

Besides, the talk is that it’s most likely that Byram, a Stanley Cup winner with the Colorado Avalanche in 2022, is heading back to the Western Conference. Since he’s from Cranbrook, BC, there’s been plenty of speculation about a Byram to Vancouver Canucks deal. However, the team in the West that can most easily meet Buffalo’s desire for NHL players in a hockey trade is probably the Los Angeles Kings.
