I-75 Exit Sign in Place for Gordie Howe Bridge Opening

A bridge from Canada to USA is a fitting memorial to man who came from humble beginnings in Saskatchewan to become an NHL superstar whose fame stretched the bounds of the earth.
In the 1950s, international newsreels trumpeted the exploits of Gordie Howe. The majority of people, especially those from far-off countries, watching black and white films, didn’t know anything about the NHL, but they knew that the handsome, well-chiseled athlete from Saskatchewan was the best hockey player on the planet.
The 1.6-mile Gordie Howe Bridge, connecting Windsor to the Detroit area, will officially be opened in September. Recently, an exit ramp sign for the bridge, off I-75 was hung from the Clark Street overpass.

The actual final day of operation for the Gordie Howe Bridge has not been announced. Construction on the bridge began in 2018, but Covid delayed completion.
The late Howe played 26 seasons in the NHL and six more in the World Hockey Association. He played all but one of his NHL seasons with the Detroit Red Wings (1946-1971). He played one season for the Hartford Whalers.
Howe died in 2016 at age 88.
