The Daily: Panthers Damage Cup; Devils Deal; Eklund to Detroit?

The Florida Panthers worked impressively hard to win the Stanley Cup for a second consecutive season. And then they damaged the Cup as soon it was back in their possession.
The rim of the bowl has noticeable damage. The Panthers partied hard with the Cup Wednesday.
This isn’t catastrophic. The Stanley Cup has been damaged and repaired several times when in the possession of a champion. In 1994, the Stanley Cup arrived in two pieces to Joey Kocur when it was his turn for 24 hours with the Stanley Cup. He found someone to solder it back together temporarily until the Hockey Hall of Fame would apply a permanent fix.

The bowl was barely attached to the trophy after the Stanley Cup got stuck in the bottom of Mario Lemieux’s pool when they won the Stanley Cup in 1991 and 1992.
The Hockey Hall of Fame asks players to be as respectful as possible, but it is accepted that incidents will occur.
Unfortunately, it happened after the (Panthers) team photo and as the families were led on to the ice,” a Hockey Hall of Fame spokesperson told the Miami Herald. “The Cup Keepers are taking the appropriate steps and plan to have it repaired by (Sunday’s) parade.”
