As Stanley Cup Glory Arrives, Nosek Remembers His Red Wings Roots
Was a Calder Cup champion with Griffins

The Detroit Red Wings organization is where it all started in North America for Tomas Nosek. Specifically, the AHL Grand Rapids Griffins. And as he was spending the first full day of his pro hockey career as a Stanley Cup champion, Florida Panthers center Nosek was pausing to remember those roots.
Appropriately, perhaps, he did so via a video message he recorded while enjoying a Florida beach.

“Hi Griffins fans,” he posted. “This is Calder Cup and Stanley Cup champion Tomas Nosek. I miss you and I love you. I just want to say everything started in Grand Rapids for me. I’ll be forever grateful for the city. I miss you guys. Love you.”
When the Panthers beat the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday to win the Cup final in six games, Nosek became the first player to hoist the Stanley Cup after winning a Calder Cup in Grand Rapids. He’s the first former Griffin to win the Cup as a player since former Red Wings center Darren Helm with the 2022 Colorado Avalanche.
He’ll soon become the 21st former Grand Rapids player or coach to have his name added to the most famous trophy in sports. Back in 2017, Nosek led Grand Rapids with 10 goals and 22 points (10-12-22) during the franchise’s second Calder Cup run.

He was accounting for three assists in 16 games as the Panthers won the Cup. It was Nosek’s second Stanley Cup final appearance. He wound up on the losing side when the Washington Capitals beat the Vegas Golden Knights in 2018.
Nosek Launched NHL Career With Red Wings
The Golden Knights were claiming Nosek from the Red Wings in the 2017 NHL Expansion Draft. Signed as a free agent by the Red Wings in 2014, Czech-born Nosek was launching his North American pro career with the Griffins during the 2014-15 AHL season.
He would play 176 games for the Griffins, scoring 41 goals. As well, Nosek saw duty in 17 games with the Red Wings from 2015-17, accounting for one goal.
