Detroit Red Wings
The Daily: No Hall Call for Zetterberg; Zegras Review; Toews Tale

Former Detroit Red Wings captain Henrik Zetterberg collected jewelry during his NHL career. Stanley Cup ring. Olympic gold medal. World Championship gold medal. He also earned a Conn Smythe Trophy and a King Clancy Memorial Trophy during his time in the show. He is already a member of the International Ice Hockey Federation Hall of Fame.
But thus far it hasn’t been enough to put him in the Hockey Hall Fame.
A new Hall of Fame class was announced Tuesday and Zetterberg was again absent from the list. The cell didn’t ring for Chris Osgood (401 NHL wins) either. You can make a case both players are HHOF worthy,
Alex Mogilny finally received his call Tuesday, meaning he enters the Hall 19 years after his retirement. HHOF requires players to be retired for three consecutive years before considering them for the honor.
This year’s Hall of Fame included former NHLers Mogilny, Zdeno Chara, Duncan Keith and Joe Thornton, women’s players Jennifer Botterill and Brian Decker, plus builder Jack Parker (college hockey) and Daniele Sauvageau (GM, coaching consultant, women’s hockey).
I am the biggest Red Wings fan you will meet. It is not egregious. It is, however, egregious that Henrik Zetterberg is not. https://t.co/kUuYbUotl7

Zetterberg retired after the 2017-18 season. Factoring in his waiting period, he has eligible for five years of voting.
The Swedish standout finished with 960 points in 1,082 NHL games. His postseason resume shows 120 points in 137 games. But it’s the intangibles that put Zetterberg over the top. Big heart player. Played hurt. Gritty performer. Rose up in big games. Two-way player. Natural leader.
If you talk to people around the league, it’s presumed that Zetterberg will eventually get into the Hall of Fame. But it could take him a while. Competition is fierce to enter the Hall. Is Zetterberg more deserving than any of the four players selected this year? Even though Chris Osgood has many supporters, he is generally viewed as being on the bubble with his candidacy.

What will the Red Wings find at pick No. 13? Last year, the Philadelphia Flyers took Jett Luchanko at No. 13 and Detroit landed Michael Brandsegg-Nygard at No. 15. Both teams are happy with their picks. Detroit also claimed Sebastian Cossa at No. 15 (2021) and Axel Sandin Pellikka at No. 17 (2023).
