All of last week, it was as if the Buffalo Sabres had won the top prize at the county fair. Everyone wanted to talk to them about their blue-ribbon prize restricted free agent JJ Peterka.

Multiple teams were interested in acquiring the young German scorer Peterka who netted 55 goals in his last two NHL seasons. We can guess the Detroit Red Wings, looking for scoring help, were among them.

The Sabres final settled on the Utah Mammoth’s offer of defenseman Michael Kesselring and young forward Josh Doan, son of former NHLer Shane Doan. If you are a Detroit fan this morning, perhaps you are wondering why the Red Wings couldn’t beat that offer.
