Wondering what former Detroit Red Wings forward Joe Veleno is going to look like in Montreal Canadiens colors? Well, you’re going to get a good look right off the bat during the 2025-26 NHL season.

Veleno signed with the Canadiens on Wednesday, just a couple of hours before the release of next season’s NHL schedule. As it turns out, Veleno and the Canadiens will be the opponents when Detroit opens the regular season at Little Caesars Arena on Oct. 9.

Two days later, the Wings will be featured on Hockey Night In Canada’s first Saturday broadcast of the season as they play host to the Toronto Maple Leafs. Detroit then travels to Toronto for the club’s first road date of the campaign.

The Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers come to Hockeytown on October 15, followed by the Tampa Bay Lightning two days later. Each of Detroit’s first five games is against Atlantic Division rivals.

Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers, Stanley Cup finalists the past two springs, visit LCA on Oct. 19.

No Red Wings Home Games In February

The Red Wings endure a five-game road trip from October 28 to November 4. There’s a season-high six-game road sojourn in December.

However, the longest time without a game in Detroit will come in February. The Red Wings will go that entire month without playing a game at LCA. Following a January 31 home date facing the Colorado Avalanche, the next home game for the Wings is a March 4 visit by the Vegas Golden Knights.

In between are five road games, as well as the Olympic break from February 8-21.

It’s the Winnipeg Jets providing opposition for the traditional New Year’s Eve game at LCA. Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins make their only visit to Detroit on January 3.

Following a four-game homestand in April, the Red Wings close out regular-season play with a Florida trip to meet the Lightning (April 13) and Panthers (April 15).
