Detroit Red Wings prospect goalie Trey Augustine is receiving major help in his quest to win an NCAA championship before he leaves Michigan State University.

Hockey Insider Elliotte Friedman reported that Flyers’ first round pick Porter Martone (sixth, 2025) has agreed to play next season for the Spartans. The NCAA rule change allowing former CHL players to play for colleges, coupled with the availability of NIL (Name, Image and Likeness) money, is changing the college scene.

Augustine chose to return to MSU for his junior season because he wanted another crack at winning a national title. Martone is a bullish 6-foot-3 right wing who scored 37 goals with 97 points for the Brampton Steelhead last season.
