The Daily: No End in Sight for Rossi Saga; Kuznetsov Talk
The Athletic recently reported that restricted free agent Marco Rossi and the Minnesota Wild haven’t discussed a new contract since June. That leads to speculation that their contractual stalemate could stretch into training camp.
The money issue isn’t insurmountable, according to the Athletic’s Michael Russo and Joe Smith. They suggest a short-term contract with a $5 million AAV as a compromise. According to their reporting, Rossi is looking for a deal in the $6-7 million range.
The Detroit Red Wings have been linked to Rossi, mostly because he’s Austrian and Detroit’s budding star Marco Kasper is Austrian. It’s a quick leap to believe they might want to play together. They are both centers, but Kasper looked impressive as a top-line winger last season.
But we are hearing the Minnesota Wild don’t truly want to trade Rossi. Reports say they turned down a deal with a first-round pick in it before the 2025 draft. The hockey community doesn’t seem to believe Rossi will receive an offer sheet. They see this is as a contract dispute that will eventually will be resolved.
