As it turned out, former Detroit Red Wings had to move to Switzerland to climb the top of his mountain.

The Michigan native capped his first season in Switzerland’s National League by capturing MVP honors after winning the scoring title title with 20 goals and 56 points in 49 games. Czarnik, with 205 NHL games on his resume, discovered that the Swiss game was a perfect fit for his offensive abilities.

He played last season for Bern SC, but signed a new deal with Lausanne in 2025-26.  Czarnik played 34 games without scoring a goal for the Red Wings in 2023-24. He put up 28 points in 38 games for Grand Rapids that season

Czarnik told Detroit Hockey Now that the move to Switzerland is better for his family life because there is less travel in that league than he faced in North America

Report says the Red Wings are a possible destination for Pittsburgh forwards Bryan Rust or Rickard Rakell. The Penguins may consider moving one or both of them.

The Red Wings remain bullis on Carter Mazur. At 23, he’s in the mix for a permanent spot on Detroit’s roster.
