Hockey Insider Frank Seravalli sees a fit for Erik Karlsson with the Carolina Hurricanes but isn’t convinced it’s a path they should follow.

Because Brent Burns left the Hurricanes as a free agent, they have room for another right-shot defenseman.

But Seravalli asks whether Karlsson is an upgrade over Shayne Gostisbehere who currently runs their power play. Gostisbehere earns $3.4 million and Karlsson’s salary is at $10 million for each of the next two seasons.

Detroit fans know Gostisbehere well. Would you make that deal?

“Let’s say we could get Karlsson at $7.5 million,” Seravalli said, speaking on the Bleacher Report “Open Ice” livestream. “How much better is he than Gostisbehere, who’s running your power play for significantly less?”

Seravalli says the Karlsson upgrade may not be enough to justify taking in Karlsson’s salary.
