Who plays with Lucas Raymond and Dylan Larkin? Can Axel Sandin Pellikka make an NHL roster in his first try? Is the heavier, stronger Carter Mazur more ready for NHL competition? How much progress has Nate Danielson made since last training camp?

Answers to those questions will start to reveal themselves in 42 days when the Red Wings begin their annual training camp in Traverse City.  The Traverse City portion of preseason begins the morning of Thursday, Sept. 18, and runs until Saturday, Sept. 20.

Tickets for all three Red Wings’ Training Camp sessions in Traverse City go on sale next Wednesday at 10 a.m. at www.mynorthtickets.com/organizations/centre-ice

The prices:

  • Training Camp Practice (Thursday, Sept. 18): $20 per day (general admission)
  • Training Camp Practice (Friday, Sept. 19): $20 per day (general admission)
  • Training Camp Practice (Saturday, Sept. 20): $30 per day (general admission)

The Traverse City stay is one day shorter than last season because the Red Wings are holding their Red & White Game on Sunday, Sept. 21 at Grand Rapids’ Van Andel Arena instead of in Traverse City. It’s the first time the Griffins have hosted the Red & White game since 2011.

The Red Wings will not issue their roster until much closer to training camp. Most of the roster spots are decided, but there is room for one of the younger forwards, such as Mazur or Danielson, to make the team. The Red Wings are also very interested in seeing what Latvian Eduards Tralmaks can do. He is a big-bodied forward who has netted 44 goals over the past two seasons in the Czech Extraliga.  He’s more likely to start the season in Grand Rapids, but coach Todd McLellan would love it if Tralmaks forces the team to keep him on the roster. The Red Wings need to become a bigger team and be more challenging to play against.

Detroit’s preseason schedule begins Tuesday, Sept. 23, when the Red Wings play the Chicago Blackhawks at Little Caesars Arena.
