Larkin, Kane Get Olympic Orientation Invite: DeBrincat Not on List
Detroit Red Wings forwards Dylan Larkin and Patrick Kane were among the 44 players selected to participate in the U.S. Men’s Olympic Orientation Camp Aug. 26-27 at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth.
Larkin played impressively well for USA at February’s Four Nations Faceoff, and 23 players from that roster were invited to this camp. Kane is a two-time U.S.-Olympian (2010, 2014). He is one of three No. 1 NHL draft picks invited. Toronto’s Auston Matthews and New Jersey’s Jack Hughes are the others. Vegas center Jack Eichel, a No. 2 pick, will also be in Plymouth.
In addition, 13 members of the 2025 gold medal-winning team at the World Championship will also be at that camp. That includes Buffalo’s Tage Thompson, Boston goalie Jeremy Swayman and Columbus defenseman Zach Werenski.
Among those who were not selected for orientation camp are Detroit’s v and Montreal’s Lane Hutson. DeBrincat has averaged 31.6 goals per season over his eight-year NHL career, while Montreal great Serge Savard said recently that Hutson is
I think Alex DeBrincat is a surprising omission. 39 goal scorer who was fast and better defensively than advertised. https://t.co/TACwtoeVWe

USA Medal Favorite
USA Hockey’s press release states” “Players do not have to attend to the camp to be on the final U.S. Olympic Men’s Ice Hockey Team roster.”
A USA Hockey official told Detroit Hockey Now that what happens early in the NHL season will play an important in who is picked to play.  But clearly the 44 players in Plymouth are considered the players with the best chance.
Minnesota Wild general manager Bill Guerin is Team USA’s GM and New York Rangers’ Mike Sullivan is the team’s coach for the 2026 Olympic tournament.
With the likes of Matthews, Eichel, Larkin, Brady Tkachuk, Connor Hellebuyck and Charlie McAvoy among others, the Americans are considered among the favorites to win the gold medal. The Americans haven’t won a men’s Olympic hockey gold since 1980. They won the silver in 2010.
