Red Wings draftee Eddie Genborg netted two goals for Timra in SHL preseason action.

The scouting report on Detroit Red Wings’ 2025 second-round draft pick Eddie Genborg is that he’ll be at his best when the other team has the puck.

“Big, strong, powerful, good skater, hard worker,” was Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman’s post-draft assessment of Genborg. “He could be a real good checker for us, we think.”

The scouting report on Genborg following his SHL preseason debut with Timra? He can light himself a red lamp or two.

Playing his first game with his new club, the player Detroit chose with the 44th overall pick of the 2025 NHL entry draft netted a pair of goals in a 3-1 win over Skelleftea.

Genborg opened the scoring. Then, after Skelleftea had narrowed Timra’s lead in the third period, he potted the insurance goal. Genborg redirected a Simon Forsmark shot into the Skelleftea net.

Zetterberg Ready To Mentor Red Wings Pick

Genborg played last season with Linköping. He scored twice in 28 SHL regular-season games.

Timra’s most famous player of all time is former Red Wings captain Henrik Zetterberg. He’s back living in retirement in his native Sweden, helping out with his old club whenever he can. Much like he does in an informal role with the Red Wings.

In this instance, he can help out both of his former clubs. Zetterberg reached out to Genborg shortly after he officially became part of the Red Wings organization to let the youngster know he was available to lend a helping hand in his development as a pro.

“Henrik gave him a text just to obviously welcome him to the Detroit Red Wings,” Red Wings assistant GM and director of amateur scouting Kris Draper said. “And Eddie was just very fired up. So, we had our secret agent over in Sweden working for us.

“Henrik was happy with the pick as well.”
