A sellout crowd of 10,834 will be in Van Andel Arena today at 3 p.m. to watch the Detroit Red Wings’ Red & White game in Grand Rapids for the first time since 2011.

The game is usually played in Traverse City. The crowd, presumably including a considerable number of Griffins fans, will get a chance to see last season’s Griffins, such as Nate Danielson, Carter Mazur,  Amadeus Lonbardi, William Wallinder, Michael Brandsegg-Nygard, Axel Sandin-Pellikka and Emmitt Finnie, continue their efforts to earn a spot on the Red Wings’ roster.

The Red Wings seem to have one opening at forward, although Yzerman says he will make more room if someone earns a spot.

In Bob Duff’s story on Emmitt Finnie, Detroit coach Todd McLellan said he has a favorable impression of Finnie. Danielson, Sandin Pellikka and probably Brandsegg-Nygard have the best chance of making it. The Red Wings have a full roster of veterans, and would have to carve out a space to add any rookies.

Detroit’s Carter Bear is still in training camp.  The Red Wings haven’t said whether he will play for the first time in a Red Wings jersey. Recovering from an Achilles injury, Bear didn’t play in the prospect series against the Dallas Stars.

Kevin Bicker, Grayden Robertson-Palmer, defenseman Will Murphy, and goaltenders Landon Miller and Michal Pradel have all been assigned to their former teams. Also released: Nicklas Andrews, Vincent Collard and Liam Kilfoil, and defensemen Maxim Dirracolo, Wyatt Kennedy and Carl-Otto Magnusson.

Red Wings In Case You Missed It

Coach Todd McLellan is hoping J.T. Compher and Andrew Copp can be difference-makers in 2025-26.

Emmitt Finnie is getting everyone’s attention at Red Wings training camp.

Sebastian Cossa has put himself in a position to be on the NHL’s doorstep.  He’s No. 3 on the depth chart.

Red Wings Extra

Red Wings prospect Jesse Kiiskinen broke out of his early-season point slump with an assist in HPK’s 3-2 win over K-Espoo in the Finnish league. Last season, Kiiskinen made a strong impression with 40 points in 44 games.
