Ray Lane, a long-time Detroit broadcaster who spent 16 years as in-game host of Red Wings games, has died at age 95.

Lane was a pro’s pro in television work, the consummate professional who was knowledgeable and smooth in every major sport. When the Detroit Tigers won the World Series in 1968 Lane was Ernie Harwell’s broadcast partner.

Lane broadcasted for Michigan State, Michigan, the University of Detroit and the Cincinnati Reds, in addition to working for the Pistons and Red Wings. He was a Michigan native and spent most of his career in Detroit.

Red Wings In Case You Missed It

Detroit prospect Anton Johansson left a SHL game with an apparent injury. No one would say much after the game.

Bob Duff writes about the Red Wings’ desire to be more accountable this season. That may be the key to their playoff hopes.

Former Detroit player Robby Fabbri could make the Penguins’ roster. He scored GWG against Detroit.

Red Wings Extra

The Swiss National League scoring race seems like a chapter of the Red Wings alumni association. Austin Czarnik is still leading the league with 13 points in eight games. Tomas Tatar sits seventh with 10 points in eights. (He’s also been feisty with 27 penalty minutes). Dominik Kubalik is 12th with nine points in nine games. Also, Filip Zadina is a top 10 scorer with five goals in eight games.
