Red Wings Throwing Support Behind Tigers

The Detroit Red Wings will be part of an unusual experience on Tuesday.

They’re going to the playoffs.

The MLB playoffs, to be precise.

The Detroit Tigers are playing host to the Seattle Mariners in Game 3 of the American League Divisional Series. Among the capacity crowd at Comerica Park will be the entire Red Wings roster.

“We’re going to be going to the Tigers game (Tuesday), do a little rooting for them,” Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin said. “Yeah, we’re all going.

“I’m excited for it.”

The respective schedules of the two teams fell perfectly to allow the Red Wings the opportunity to check out the Tigers in person.

“We were hoping it would be,” Larkin said.

The Tigers are slated to play home games in the best-of-five series on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Red Wings don’t open the NHL regular season until Thursday. They are playing host to the Montreal Canadiens at Little Caesars Arena.

“I don’t think last year we were able to go to a playoff game with our schedule and their schedule,” Larkin said. “So it’ll be my first-ever playoff baseball game.

“So I’m excited about it.”

Larkin’s only concern would be that this perfect storm of opportunity isn’t disrupted by a storm from Mother Nature.

“Just hope it doesn’t rain,” he said.

Red Wings Rookies Will Check Out Tigers

Even the Red Wings newcomers are jumping aboard the Tigers bandwagon. Defenseman Axel Sandin Pellikka will be seeing an MLB playoff game before he’ll likely be playing his first NHL regular-season game on Thursday.

He’s the first to admit that baseball remains a foreign concept to him.

“No, not a lot,” was Sandin Pellikka’s response to what he knows about baseball. “I’m still learning about everything. Umpire. Strike. Yeah, all those kinds of stuff.”
