Carter Mazur sent a reminder to Detroit Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman about his readiness for the NHL by producing his first professional hat trick in a 4-3 win against the Texas Stars in Cedar Park, Texas.

Bothered by injuries and rust, the feisty Mazur didn’t quite get going in Detroit training camp. After becoming injured last season in his second NHL shift, Mazur beefed up to 200 pounds in the offseason.

Eduards Tralmaks, former Czech League standout signed by Detroit in the offseason, scored the Griffins other goal. Prospect Ondrej Becher assisted on that goal.  Sebastian Cossa also made 32 saves to contribute season-opening road win.

The Griffins and Stars play again tonight.
