The Detroit Red Wings’ Thursday good fortune on a video review, which helped them win in Los Angeles,  was followed by bad fortune on two video reviews leading to a loss in Anaheim on Friday.

Bob Duff’s story explained how the two video reviews cost the Red Wings.

But the other causes of Friday’s loss were self-inflicted. Rookie Axel Sandin Pellikka was caught flat-footed on the point on Anaheim’s shorthanded goal. The team’s bottom six forwards didn’t have their best night. Jonatan Berggren only played 11:48 minutes and was minus-3. Andrew Copp was minus-2.

In general, the defensive coverage wasn’t as effective as it needs to be. How do you lose track of Leo Carlsson to the point of allowing him to record four points?

Detroit was also 1-for-7 on the power play.  The Ducks have been below average as penalty killers.  Now. the Red Wings need a win Sunday against the San Jose Sharks to assure a winning road trip.

Red Wings In Case You Missed It

The Anaheim Ducks beat the Red Wings in the game and on the replays. Two video reviews were critical to Detroit’s loss.

Grand Rapids Griffins are looking for their seventh consecutive win tonight when they play the Rockford IceHogs on the road.

NHL.com projects two Red Wings making the 2026 U.S. Olympic hockey team.

Red Wings Extra

Former Detroit player Vladimir Tarasenko has been underwhelming in his first 12 games for the Minnesota Wild, He has scored only one goal and added four assists for five points. At 33, Tarasenko can’t seem to find the playing level that allowed him to score  33 or more goals six times in his career.
