Red Wings Prospect Nets Pair

When the Detroit Red Wings selected right-winger Eddie Genborg 40th overall in the 2025 NHL entry draft, the sense was that they were getting a gritty forward who would evolve into an ideal bottom-six forward.

At the same time, the consensus was that he probably wasn’t going to be a big goal scorer. Of course, that was also what the scouts were suggesting about Marco Kasper, and all he did last season as an NHL rookie was net 19 goals.

The early returns are offering indications that Genborg might also be ready to upset the form charts.

Genborg scored twice Saturday as Timra blanked HV71 5-0. He opened the scoring and then closed it out with six minutes left in the third period.

The two-goal outburst left Genborg with seven goals on the season. Among under-20 players in the SHL, only 2025 Chicago Blackhawks first-round pick Anton Frondell (eight) has scored more often.

Genborg was working this past week with Timra icon and former Red Wings captain Henrik Zetterberg. Evidently, the lessons went well.

He’s on pace for a 38-point season. By comparison, Red Wings star Lucas Raymond collected just 18 points in the SHL as an 18-year-old.

Swedes Select Red Wings Prospect

Genborg got some other good news this week. He was among the players named to the Swedish junior squad that will be playing in a mid-November tournament in Slovakia. It’s the final tune-up before the IIHF World Junior Championship in December in Minnesota.

“We’re just aiming for (world junior) gold, hopefully,” Genborg told Swedish website TTela. “Of course, I hope to play it. It’s a big tournament. Something I’ve dreamed of for quite a while, to play in the (world juniors).”

Genborg also played for Sweden in the World Junior Summer Showcase last August.

Also selected to Sweden’s roster is goalie Herman Liv. He’s the son of 2000 Red Wings draft pick Stefan Liv, who played goal for the AHL Grand Rapids Griffins in 2006-07.
