You might have thought that Sunday’s Soderblom vs Soderblom showdown was a rarity in Detroit Red Wings history – a brother act on opposing teams in which one of the siblings is a netminder.

Surprisingly, it’s a happening that’s been occurring more than you might expect.

Sunday afternoon’s 5-1 win by goalie Arvid Soderblom and the Chicago Blackhawks over forward Elmer Soderblom and the Red Wings was the 16th time in Detroit franchise history that such a combination had unfolded in a game.
